Why MDT Checklist

Routines you actually use.

Premarket prep, news playbook, end-of-day wrap, Sunday review — easy to write down, hard to actually follow. An AddOn that lives inside NT8, shows up at the times you set, and won't get out of the way until every box is ticked. Same surface for every routine you want to keep.

Tabbed checklists

Build one list or many — tabs across the top. Premarket, post-open, news playbook, Sunday review. Switch in one click. Rename by double-click. Delete by right-click. Same interaction you already know from any browser.

Ticks persist by day

Tick an item — it stays ticked. Survives a NinjaTrader restart, a chart reload, a recompile. Clears automatically when the day rolls past the reset time you set. You never lose what you already did, and you never get yesterday's state on a fresh day.

Auto-appears

Pick when it shows itself: at NinjaTrader start, at your daily reset time, both, or never (manual only). The window comes to you — you don't go to the menu.

"Complete & close" guard

The footer button is grey until every item across every list is ticked — then it turns green and the window closes itself (if you've set it to). A small friction that quietly enforces the routine.

Lives on your machine

No accounts, no cloud sync, no telemetry. Your checklists are plain XML in your NinjaTrader user folder — readable, backable, never leaves your desk. Nothing to set up beyond opening the window.

Inline editing

Add items as fast as you think of them — type, Enter, repeat. Reorder with ▲▼. Rename a checklist by double-clicking the tab. No "settings" detour to manage your own routine.

Multiple checklists

One window. As many lists as your routine needs.

Your premarket checks aren't the same as your post-open checks. Your Sunday review isn't the same as your Friday wrap. Stuffing all of those into one giant list means most of it doesn't apply to the moment you're in.

Tabs across the top. Each tab is its own list with its own state. Add as many as you want, rename by double-click, delete by right-click. The window is yours to shape — not a one-size routine you have to compromise into.

  • Unlimited tabs, each fully independent
  • Ticks persist per-tab through the trading day
  • "Complete & close" only fires when every list is done

Show up on its own

You set the time. It shows up tomorrow.

Four startup modes, set once in Settings. The right one for most traders is "At the daily reset time" — pick the hour you start your prep (we default to 06:00 ET) and the Checklist auto-opens every weekday morning.

Ticks you make during the day persist if NinjaTrader restarts, recompiles, or you close and re-open the window. The day rolls past your reset hour → state clears, fresh list. Nothing to remember, nothing to manage.

  • Modes: NT start · Daily reset · Both · Manual
  • Reset hour in NinjaTrader's chart timezone
  • Weekends optional — defaults to weekdays only
  • Auto-close on complete (optional) — out of your way once routine's done

Pricing

Pay what you want.

Free if you want it free. Tip what feels right if it earns its place in your routine. Same product either way — no "free trial" expiry, no feature lock. Every update lands in your Customer Dashboard for the life of the product.

Updates are free for the life of the product. If/when NinjaTrader 9 is released and porting requires significant rework, a small upgrade fee may apply — expect nominal, not a fresh purchase.

FAQ

Questions traders actually ask.

Does this require NinjaTrader 8?

Yes — NinjaTrader 8 only. Install like any other NT8 add-on: Control Center → Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On → pick the zip. NT auto-installs and recompiles. NT7 and other platforms are not supported.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Yes, really. The minimum price at checkout is $0 — that's a real, accepted answer. The PWYW model is here so traders who get value can tip what feels right, and everyone else just gets a tool they didn't have to negotiate for. No upsell tier, no expiring trial, no feature lock.

What format is the download?

A standard NinjaScript Archive (.zip). Compiled, not source. The zip includes the MDT AddOn Framework runtime your AddOn needs — install once, you're done. The same framework is reused by every other MDT AddOn (Focus Manager, Account Copier, Risk Manager).

Will my ticks survive a NinjaTrader restart?

Yes. Item state persists to {NT8}/MyDailyTake/Checklist/checklist.xml with a day-stamp. Restart NT, recompile, close-and-reopen the window — your ticks come back exactly as you left them. The day rolls past your configured reset hour → state clears automatically, fresh list.

What if I want a different reset time?

Set it in the Settings tab. The time is in NinjaTrader's chart timezone (whatever you have configured in NT). Default is 06:00 — early enough to clear before US futures premarket. Pick any hour:minute that fits your routine.

How many checklists can I create?

As many as you want — they're tabs across the top of the window. Common setups: one for Premarket, one for the Open, one for a News playbook, one for end-of-day wrap. Each tab has its own item state. Add tabs with "+ new", rename by double-click, delete by right-click.

Will this conflict with other AddOns?

No. The Checklist only adds a single menu item (Control Center → New → MDT Checklist) and writes its own XML file under {NT8}/MyDailyTake/Checklist/. It doesn't touch order routing, indicators, chart drawing tools, or strategy code. Safe to run alongside every other AddOn including the rest of the MDT suite.

How do updates work?

When a new version is released, the new zip appears in your Customer Dashboard Downloads tab. Re-import in NinjaTrader (Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On). Your settings + lists + ticks all stay intact — they live in your own data folder, not the AddOn itself. More detail in the Docs.

Who builds this?

Jack at MyDailyTake — a futures trader and NinjaScript developer writing for NT8 since NT6.5. Same guy who runs the blog and builds the rest of the MDT tool suite. You can find me on Twitter, YouTube, GitHub, and at mydailytake.com.

Stop forgetting. Start ticking.

A 5-second install, a 60-second routine build, then every morning the checklist appears on its own. The list you actually meant to follow, on the screen you actually use.
